to--enhanced torture led to finding bin-laden. if you know something we don't c.i.a. you're supposed to legally share it with us, and what did you share with the filmmakers. this is what the finding said, the c.i.a. is it not first learn about the existence of the ubl courier from c.i.a. detainees subjected to the coercive instead, the c.i.a. learned of the existence of the courier. >> joy: has true name, through meanings unrelate to the c.i.a. detention and interrogation program. basically, they're asking the c.i.a. what do you know that we don't know if you're supposed to share this information with us. and are you telling me that you shared something with hollywood filmmakers that you did not share with the senate? that's a really good question. now let's bring in a couple of guests and experts to talk about

this. great to have you both on here. now lizzie, let me start with you. it seems that the c.i.a. is doing a little cya we might have done that torture and it may have led to something even though when we look at the fact that it kind of didn't. >> well, i feel like this is the case of the c.i.a. got into bed with hollywood, now they're having, for lack of a better expression, like post congugal regreat, and they boxed themselves into a corner. they could have sensibly said that all of the information related to the hunt for bin-laden and the capture of bin-laden was classified, but they had presumably given all this information to filmmakers.

now it's lewd chris to turn around and say we can't give that information to the committee on intelligence or frankly to the american public. if you gave it to hollywood filmmakers who are not cleared and they don't have top security clearances we should be able to see that too and settle for once whether or not information from torture led to the capture of osama bin laden which i don't believe it did. >> laura, it's interesting. you see this in so many human rights issues where there is selective leaking. if you ask me about information oh classified. >> yeah, i mean, i think the american public has to be very frustrated as feinstein is that on the one hand the over classified c.i.a. program, now on the other hand they give this special access to the filmmakers. so the american public should

really be upset about this. >> lizzie, discuss this happen often at the c.i.a. selective leaking for lack of a better word for propaganda purposes. >> i think in this case we're seeing the c.i.a. give specific information to further their own agenda that's the kind of thing that we're supposed to be doing in other countries not our own. you know, someone like me or other c.i.a. authors valerie plame, we all when we write books about the c.i.a. memoirs we have to send them to the c.i.a. to have them veteranned for any classified information. i have to chuckle because some of the information that is redacted from my book or bob bear's books or valerie plame you would think it was laughable that that was deemed classified when they obviously spilled all of the beans on the osama bin laden operation to hollywood

before they shared that information with either congressmen and women or with the american public. at this point i feel like they really have to back up if they're going to selectively suggest certain things, then they have to back that up. they can't now say that's classified information. >> cenk: now we have bradley manning sitting in jail to sore long, he leaked information that we didn't want leaked out. but when we want information leaked out we'll leaking it for one purpose or another. when you look at the at a case, hey can we get a legal briefing as to why we executed an u.s. citizen abroad without trial but then didn't they kill

going to veto it, and it's still not closed down. is the president ever going to shut it down or is he playing patty cakes with the republicans and we're going to keep those people in there forever. >> well it's time to exercise political capital and make this happen. he pledged that he was going to close guantanamo. but he has not followed up with lobbying congress and explaining to them why this is so important. in his own statement that he signed, he said keeping guantanamo is a danger to national security. if it is a danger to national security, then he needs to do more that this happens that restrictions are removed we send detainees back and we close the prison. >> cenk: the guys at guantanamo,

think that president obama doesn't have the nerve to fight back and that he will concede when those threats are issued. are they right? well that is an epic question. in order to answer that epic question, i think we need political correspondent just an epic. but we don't want to get lost. we're not in a situation like greece. they're going to say greece, and first of all italy has shown solvency even though that prime minister recently stepped down. they've shown a path of sol sentcysolvency. >> cenk: it's a disaster disastrous way to go because the last time they shut down the government, they were blamed for it. it's a bad way to play for it, except for the fact that i think it's going to work because they're not dealing with bill clinton. they're dealing with barack obama, and barack obama has shown 99 out of 100 times that i'm not sure what the one other time is that if threatened he will cave. that's what he does. he's threatening. >> they're threatening the white house. they're also threatening their senate colleagues, their democratic senate colleagues. they're saying to the rest of the senate which they're a

federal reserve and then all of our debts would be erased. any economics 101 would say that is not the way to run the government. you would have crazy inflation in this case is what is crazier than the 3 trillion-dollar coin is the debt ceiling. congress has always raised the debt ceiling. only how have they fought the white house. well, it's for debt that the congress has incurred. it has to go up. the idea that this 3 trillion-dollar county could get them back the debt ceiling on a technicality is something that makes sense. >> cenk: so it's an absurd idea. understand first of all if they're not going to put it into circulation. if they put it in circulation then they would have inflation. but if they're not going to put it in circulation then what is. this all about? i guess it's the technicality to

$9.7 billion was approveed of the $60 billion they were asking for. what is amazing who voted against it. 67 people, all republicans. first of all paul ryan, you'll remember him. he ran for vice president this year. this is paul ryan who has voted for unfunded wars. paul ryan who has voted for tax cuts for the rich voted against the sandy relief package. stephen palas iszzo. this is what he had to say about it. some of the counties in the fourth congressional district have been the hardest hit by isaac. we cannot thank them enough for the support. he's from biloxi and he votes against it. >> cenk: this proves my point on the republican party. they have no principle

>> cenk: all right, we're back on "the young turks." the white house released a photo of the president when he found out about the shootings in newtown, connecticut. now, we know that he was distraught over it. he's there with the counter of terrorism chief john brennan. i have a cynical point of view. i don't like the release of these pictures. i find them to be largely propaganda. it's the same picture of when we got bin-laden. it's great we got bin-laden. it would be great if he was

concerned about gun control. to see oh, i'm so struck about it it would have been nicer if he would have done something about it before with gun control. gabrielle giffords will be meeting with connecticut governorgovernancey wymangovernor governor ygovernor i didn't nan. in 21 days we've had 427 gun deaths since the the connecticut massacre. it's a slow massacre and we're all living in it.

>> congress has proposed ten pieces of legislation in order to deal with gun violence. democrats proposed eight new gun safety bills and republicans proposed two bills eliminating begun-free zones. to give a sense of what democrats are trying to get accomplished when it comes to gun control they want to ban high capacity ammunition and close loopholes and they want anyone who gets a gun to have a background check. the guns have to be registered. we need to comprehensive database to keep track of those who do buy a gun so only the most responsible individuals get their hands on guns. it's interesting because the nra is against all that. on december 21, wayne la pierre blamed all of these mass shootings on the mass media. let's take a look at what he had to say. >> then they all had the nerve

it's ugly in its consequences. do they think their audience is that dumb. >> these people know nothing about guns or the history of assault weapons, which is what we're talking about, or they're just lying. marion hammer knows a lot about guns and racism. she was the one to shoot through the law that led to a shooting of a young teenager who was walking through a neighborhood. marion hammer has rammed that law--i can't tell you the exact number but but a number of states in the united states. and people have been killed because of marion hammer's law unfortunately, people of color and different ethnicity hey they scare you, you got to shoot them. >> cenk: tom diaz, thank you.

reduction deal. part of the reason that i know it reduces the deficit is because the president told me. >> obama: last year i signed into law $1.7 trillion in deficit reduction. tonight's agreement further reduces the deficit by raising $620 billion from the wealthiest households in america. and there will be further reduction when congress decides what to do with the spending cuts we've delayed for two months. >> cenk: deficit reduction right? not exactly the congressional budget office does not agree with the republicans or democrats who say this is a deficit reduction. they say we have changed the law so that we have added 4 trillion-dollar to the deficit deficit, 4 trillion-dollar. that's not reducing the deficit. increasing the deficit by 4 trillion-dollar. why? if we had done nothing the law would have had the bush tax cuts

expire. instead, they agreed they should not expire for 99% of us. some people might like that, we have a tax increase for those making over $450,000, but understand what we agreed to. it was not a deficit reduction package. it added 4 trillion-dollar to the deficit. but now i know that it was for the middle class. i know, there would be no corporate give-aways in there would there? the president told me there isn't. >> obama: we can't simply cut our way to prosperity. cutting spending has to go hand in hand with further reforms to our tax code so that the wealthy wealthiest corporations and individuals can't take advantage of loopholes and deductions that aren't available to most americans. >> cenk: that's right. no corporate loopholes, but do you know that the assistance package of $600 billion, per year it's $62 billion that we're increasing taxes.

but we're actually decreasing taxes by $68 billion why? that's corporate loopholes and deductions part of this deal. when you look at tax hikes for the rich, well, all right--no no. even if you assumed the bush tax cuts were going to be expended we did not add money to the budget. we subtracted. we increased the deficit because we gave away so much in deductions to corporations. we told you about that in the past. $150 million to hollywood $140 million to nascar. $11 billion for just 20 companies. so who won? corporations did, of course. did we reduce the deficit? of course not. tim carney who is a conservative right up there making a good point, he has, i'll give credit where credit is due he said the white house wanted permanent extensions of a whole blue of

tax credit. when they said no, the white house insisted that the exact language be included in the fiscal cliff deal. why do i tell that you? the corporate give aways were not insisted upon by the republicans. they readily agreed. they love corporate give aways but it was the white house who insisted on that. what you hear in the media is a lie. we didn't reduce the deficit. we added to the deficit. that was never the priority. the fiscal cliff, oh my god. no the priority was to funnel monies to corporations, funnel money to the people who wanted it, and extend the bush tax cuts permanently for 84% of revenue. you got lied to. those are the realities. those are the facts. that's what we do here. we bust through the myths and tell you what the reality is. now when we come back, we're going to do that about drug legalization. we're going to talk to the
